Perforated Eardrum

A perforated eardrum is usually caused by trauma or infection.

Perforated Eardrum

A perforated eardrum is a hole or tear in your eardrum. The eardrum is the thin tissue that separates the ear canal and the middle ear. A perforated eardrum is usually caused by trauma or infection. It is often accompanied by hearing loss and occasional discharge of drainage. Pain is usually present for a short while.

A ruptured eardrum usually heals within a few weeks without treatment. However, if a perforated eardrum does not heal on its own, a procedure or surgery may be required.
